What actually happens on day one
About seventy-five minutes, start to finish. Here's every part of it, in order, so nothing is a surprise.

Book it — and tell us if you're anxious
Online or by phone. There's one optional box on the form that says "anything we should know?" — people write things like "I haven't been in nine years" or "I hate the scraping sound." We read every one and flag your chart so the whole team knows before you walk in.

Before you arrive
Paperwork from your couch, insurance already checked
Your forms arrive by email the same day you book. Jo calls your insurer, confirms what's covered, and texts you your expected out-of-pocket number before your appointment. No clipboard, no surprises.

First 10 minutes
The tour comes before the chair
You meet your hygienist standing up, in normal clothes, in a normal room. Bathroom, water, where to put your coat, what's about to happen and in what order. Nothing goes in your mouth in the first ten minutes.

Exam, X-rays and photos — on a screen you can see
A full X-ray series, gum-pocket measurements, an oral cancer screening, and intra-oral camera photos of anything we flag. It all goes on the monitor in front of you and we point at the actual tooth. You'll usually get your cleaning the same visit.

Last 15 minutes
A written plan, in priority order, with prices
Printed and emailed before you leave, split into three buckets: needs doing now, should happen this year, and safe to watch. Every line has a cash price and an after-insurance price. Then you go home and think about it — nobody follows you to the front desk.

And we happily bill out-of-network plans too. For most PPOs that works out within a few dollars of in-network — Jo will run the numbers and tell you the difference before you commit to anything.

The Hazelbrook Smile Club is $29 a month for adults and $22 for kids — two cleanings, two exams, all routine X-rays, one emergency visit and 20% off everything on the list below. No deductible, no annual cap, no claim forms.

The eight we get asked most
I haven't been to a dentist in years. Will you lecture me?
No. Roughly a third of our new patients haven't been in five years or more — it is the single most common thing we hear at a first visit. We look, we tell you what's there, we put it in order of urgency, and we start with whatever's hurting or cheapest to stop. Nobody here is keeping score.
What does the first visit actually cost?
$89 for the exam and a full X-ray series if you're paying cash. If you have dental insurance, this is the visit plans are most likely to cover at 100% — Jo verifies your benefits before you arrive and tells you the number in advance.
Do you take my insurance?
We're in-network with eight plans (listed above) and we happily bill out-of-network plans too, which for most PPOs means your reimbursement is very similar. Send us a photo of your card and we'll tell you exactly what you'd pay before you book anything.
I have no insurance. Is there an option?

How soon can I get in?
New patient exams usually run 5–9 days out. Toothaches and anything swollen get seen the same day if you call before 10am — we hold slots open every morning specifically for this.
I'm genuinely afraid of dentists.
Tell us when you book and we'll flag your chart. That means a longer appointment, a walkthrough before anything goes in your mouth, a hand signal that stops everything instantly, and nitrous oxide if you want it. We'd rather spend an extra twenty minutes than lose you for another five years.
Can my whole family come at once?
Yes, and we'll try hard to stack you. Back-to-back family blocks are easiest early mornings and on our Saturday clinics — ask for a family block when you call and Jo will build it.
What if I can't afford the plan you give me?
Say so. We'll split the plan into phases, tell you what's urgent versus what can safely wait a year, and set up interest-free in-house payments over six months on anything above $500. A plan you can actually pay for beats a perfect one you never start.
